Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame is hell-bent to topple Fox’s Avatar to be the highest grossing movie of all time. And even if it doesn’t, it will not be for not trying.
Soon after its release, Avengers: Endgame‘s box office sales rocketed to cross $2 billion mark worldwide in just 11 days. To date, Endgame has collected $2.74 billion worldwide, just behind the record-breaking $2.78 billion collection of Avatar. But it is unlikely that Endgame will have to see Avatar‘s taillight for long.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that Avengers: Endgame is getting a theatrical re-release on June 28, 2019.

Since the box-office performance of Endgame was so front-loaded, its momentum has unsurprisingly slowed. Will this re-release be the boost it needs to earn the margin of almost $40 million to overtake James Cameron’s 2009 revolutionary sci-fi flick? It just might be.
“Not an extended cut, but there will be a version going into theaters with a bit of a marketing push with a few new things at the end of the movie. If you stay and watch the movie, after the credits, there’ll be a deleted scene, a little tribute, and a few surprises. Which will be next weekend.”
Kevin Feige on the re-release of Avengers: Endgame
It’s unclear if there’s an appetite for an Avengers: Endgame re-release so soon, especially since the film is still in most theatres. But then, it’s unwise to underestimate the power of comic-book enthusiasts. After all, few expected that Avengers: Endgame would reach $357 million in North America and $1.2 billion worldwide during its opening weekend. The prospect that Marvel might unveil deleted scenes and post-credit footage, features typically reserved for DVD releases, could be enough to already draw fans back to their local movie theatre.
Speculations have already started on what will the extra scenes be about. Some have suggested the “tribute” will be dedicated to the comic book legend Stan Lee, whereas there are rumours of X-Men or Fantastic Four getting a place in some post-credit scenes as these franchises are now under the same wing.
In fact, Avengers: Endgame could also get a bump in ticket sales from Spider-Man: Far From Home, which hits multiplexes only a few days later on July 2. Marvel had played a similar strategy when they planned the release of Captain Marvel a month before Avengers: Endgame.
Last month when it crossed Titanic to gain the second place, director (of both Titanic and Avatar) James Cameron took to twitter to congratulate the success of the multi-superhero starrer:
“An iceberg sank the real Titanic. It took the Avengers to sink my Titanic. Everyone here at Lightstorm Entertainment salutes your amazing achievement.”
Let’s see what he has to say if (or when) Endgame brings Avatar down to become the new Toruk Makto!
